This is the oldest route to Kilimanjaro and it is also famously known as coca – cola route, this used to be the most popular route before it was overtaken by machame route. marangu route offers huts accommodation and it is preferred by climbers who do not like to sleep in camps. The route is also considered easy due to its low gradient while hiking. The route is popular during the rainy seasons for climbers who wish to avoid wet clothes inside tents. The route ascent and descent is done on the same path which offers less scenery compared to other routes and more crowds on the path and in huts. However the route is still recommended for families who are looking for more comfortable accommodation. The direct path in this route does not offer much time for acclimatization which may discredit its title as the easiest route and approaches the mountain from southeast.

The route experiences low traffic on its starting point until it joins the machame route. After that the route follows the same trail as the machame through lava tower, barranco and barrafu base camp. We highly recommend lemosho route for its great scenery, balanced traffic and high summit success rate. .
