Overview

This 7-Day Great Serengeti Migration (Western Corridor) Safari package has been mapped out specifically to increase your chance to see the great Serengeti Wildebeest Migration in ndutu area. The area is filled with boundless grasslands. The area is part of the migratory cycle as the mass of herbivores graze and calves in the area between November and March, depending on the rains. The area is also a home to the big cats through the year but the best time to spot them is the calving time as the viscous predators prey on the vulnerable cubs. The calves have an extraordinary ability as they can stand on their feet just 2- 3 minutes after birth and they can join the herd in just about 5 minutes. Apart from its dazzling landscape and a good number of resident animals the greatest attraction in the area is the full circle of the great migration , from the return of the animals to graze the area in December, followed by calving in January and February and finally the departure in April as they head north in search of better pastures.

You’ll also see thousands of gazelles, zebras, buffalos, and even hyenas and wild dogs. The ancient caldera shelters one of the most beautiful wildlife havens on earth. Explore this wild and uncharted territory of Lake Eyasi located in the southwest of ngorongoro crater. The lake is part of other beautiful lakes in the East African Rift Valley. The mildly alkaline lake stretches for about 50 km to the southwest with the vast plains of the Serengeti in its north. Take leisure walks along the shores of the lake and spend afternoons surveying the area dotted with ancient Baobab trees. Join a hunting expedition with a Hadzabe family. Observe the early morning hunting display, gathering honey, and traditional dance performances by the indigenous inhabitants. It is a cultural encounter worth experiencing. We will join the Hadzabe and Datonga tribes for a morning hunting escapade. Mind you, this is not a trifling performance. Pay close attention to the locals, the hunting methods are their survival skills so they may even tell you to be quiet at times while they express the use of their locally made poison in paralyzing the wild creatures on which they depend on for food , we will get back to your accommodation for late breakfast . After Breakfast you will keep learning more about the hadzabe people, you will visit their homesteads, seeing their daily to daily activities learn about their medical plants and their unique ways of animal tracking. While here some wildlife and wide range of bird species can be spotted. We will drive back to karatu/manyara in the late afternoon.

Although only a third of the park consists of dry land, the reserve boasts a high diversity of plant and animal species. The park is named after the lake and was established in 1961 to protect the vast elephant herds that the area is known for; Manyara features an incredible wealth of habitats, from soaring groundwater forest to acacia tortilis woodland, a tranquil soda lake, bubbling hot springs and the steep escarpment of the Rift Valley. The Great Rift Valley is more spectacular here, with a precipitous drop of about 500 m (1 600 feet) to the flamingo-rimmed lakeshore. Lake Manyara’s thick forests are a haven for lions, which are known to climb and lounge in the trees, as well as hunting on the grassy shores of the lake, the only kind of their species in the world, they make the ancient mahogany and elegant acacias their home during the rainy season, and are a well-known but rather rare feature of the northern park. Other wildlife species includes large herds of buffalo, endangered African wild dog, cheetah, giraffe and impala. Troops of several hundred olive baboons can be encountered in the park, which is also home to Syke’s monkey, short-eared galago, Cape clawless otters, Egyptian mongoose, hippo and klipspringer. Before sun set we will retire to manyara (mto wa mbu) for dinner and overnight.
