Your 8-day Kilimanjaro hiking tour with Tanzania Safari Radar begins with a warm welcome upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) or Arusha Airport. You will meet your Tanzania Safari Radar driver-guide waiting for you; relax and enjoy your drive as you’re transferred to the hotel in Moshi. Get some rest as you prepare yourself for an amazing adventure of 8 Days Machame route Kilimanjaro climbing.
After driving from Moshi to Machame Gate and completing registration, we set off into the lush montane rainforest. Hike along winding, moss-draped forest trails where you may spot black-and-white colobus monkeys and exotic birds. After 5 to 7 hours of trekking (11 km), we reach Machame Camp (2,835 m), where our crew serves a hot meal before your first night on the mountain.
We leave the rainforest zone behind and climb steep, rocky ridges into the open heather and moorland terrain. Crossing the scenic Shira Plateau, wide-open panoramic views open up toward Kibo Peak. After 4 to 6 hours of hiking (5 km), we arrive at Shira Cave Camp (3,750 m), giving your body a great opportunity to adapt gradually to the rising elevation.
Today is dedicated to maximizing your acclimatization. We take a short, gentle 3 to 4-hour exploration walk (4 km) around the high-altitude Shira Plateau, visiting scenic rock formations and high points before returning to Shira Cave Camp. This relaxed pace gives your body extra time to produce red blood cells and rest before heading into higher alpine zones.
A crucial acclimatization day following the "climb high, sleep low" rule. We hike east across the alpine desert up to the iconic Lava Tower at 4,630 meters for lunch. Afterward, we descend into the striking Barranco Valley, flanked by giant senecio plants, to reach Barranco Camp (3,960 m) after 6 to 8 hours on the trail (10 km).
We kick off the morning with a fun scramble up the non-technical Barranco Wall ("Breakfast Wall"). Reaching the top rewards you with sweeping views of Kibo's glaciers. We traverse ridges and valleys to Karanga Camp (4,035 m) for lunch after 4 to 5 hours of trekking (5 km), leaving plenty of afternoon time to rest and hydrate.
We depart Karanga Camp and complete the South Circuit, ascending through stark alpine desert landscape toward Barafu Camp (4,675 m). After 4 to 5 hours of hiking (4 km), we arrive at base camp early in the afternoon. Our crew serves an early dinner, followed by gear preparation and a full summit briefing before going to sleep early.
At midnight, we begin our ultimate summit push, climbing steep scree slopes to Stella Point (5,756 m) by sunrise. A final push brings you to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) the Roof of Africa! After celebrating and capturing photos, we descend to Barafu Camp for a short rest and lunch before continuing down to Mweka Camp (3,100 m) after 11 to 14 total hours on the mountain (17 km).
We wrap up our journey with a scenic 3 to 4-hour walk (10 km) down through the lush rainforest to Mweka Gate. Here, park authorities award you your official summit certificate. Our vehicle will transfer you back to your hotel in Moshi Town to celebrate your incredible accomplishment with the Tanzania Safari Radar team!
