Celebrate New Year's Day atop Africa’s highest peak with Tanzania Safari Radar! To maximize safety and summit success, our 6-Day Marangu Route New Year Trek (2026–2027) includes an extra acclimatization day at Horombo Hut. Setting off from Marangu Gate (1,860m), your journey traverses five distinct climate zones from dense, tropical rainforests to giant lobelia moorlands and alpine deserts beneath Kibo Peak.
On Day 3, you will practice the proven "climb high, sleep low" technique with an acclimatization trek to Zebra Rocks (4,020m) or Mawenzi Ridge. This extra layer of altitude adaptation helps your body produce vital red blood cells, ensuring you feel energized and prepared for your midnight summit push on New Year's Eve from Kibo Hut (4,700m).
As midnight arrives on December 31st, your group will ascend through glacial scree to reach Gillman's Point and traverse the crater rim to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m / 19,341 ft) just in time to welcome the first sunrise of 2027 from the Roof of Africa. At Tanzania Safari Radar, we start your New Year Kilimanjaro adventure the moment we greet you at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) or Arusha Airport. We transfer you directly to your comfortable hotel in Moshi, where our team conducts a thorough pre-trek briefing and equipment check to ensure you are fully prepared for the mountain.
Your day starts with a transfer to Marangu Gate (1,860 m) for park check-in before we guide your trek into the vibrant rainforest. We pace your 4-to-5-hour hike to Mandara Hut (2,700 m), pointing out native wildlife like colobus monkeys along the trail. Once at camp, your guide can escort you on a short excursion to Maundi Crater to soak in the scenery.
Tanzania Safari Radar leads you through dramatic alpine moorland filled with giant lobelias and unique mountain vegetation. Over this 5-to-6-hour trek to Horombo Hut (3,700 m), our team highlights stunning views of Mawenzi and Kibo Peaks while keeping a steady pace for optimal acclimatization.
Your day starts with a guided hike to Zebra Rocks (4,020 m) as Tanzania Safari Radar puts the critical "climb high, sleep low" acclimatization technique into action. After enjoying the unique rock formations and scenery, we return you to Horombo Hut, where our mountain chef serves a hot lunch before you spend the afternoon resting.
This day begins with Tanzania Safari Radar team guiding your trek across the vast, barren alpine desert saddle connecting Mawenzi and Kibo Peaks up to Kibo Hut (4,700 m). Upon arrival in the early afternoon, our mountain chef serves an early, nutrient-dense dinner so you can rest until 11:00 PM, when our guides wake you for tea and lead your midnight New Year's Eve summit ascent.
Your day starts in the early morning hours with Tanzania Safari Radar team pacing your climb up to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) just as sunrise illuminates the Roof of Africa. After celebrating New Year's Day at the summit, we escort you back down to Kibo Hut to rest, then continue the guided descent to Horombo Hut (3,700 m) for dinner.
Your day begins with Tanzania Safari Radar guiding your final descent down through the lush rainforest to Marangu Gate. Upon arrival, our team presents your official Kilimanjaro summit certificates, joins you in celebrating with a farewell ceremony for your dedicated mountain crew, and transfers you back to your hotel in Moshi for a well-earned celebration.
