5-Day Marangu Route Kilimanjaro Trek to Uhuru Peak
Embark on a classic, direct journey to the Roof of Africa with Tanzania Safari Radar! Designed for physically fit travelers, couples, and adventurers with limited time, our 5-day Marangu Route expedition offers an efficient and comfortable ascent up Mount Kilimanjaro. Affectionately known as the "Coca-Cola Route," Marangu is the only trail on the mountain offering dormitory-style A-frame wooden huts with foam mattresses, keeping you sheltered and dry throughout your climb.
Starting at Marangu Gate (1,860m), your trek takes you through five rich ecological zones moving from lush tropical rainforests up into giant heather moorlands and arid alpine deserts near Kibo Peak.
The 5-day itinerary follows a direct ascent path via Mandara Hut (2,700m) and Horombo Hut (3,700m) before reaching base camp at Kibo Hut (4,700m). Because this condensed itinerary skips the extra acclimatization day, maintaining a steady, relaxed pace ("pole pole") and proper hydration is key to overcoming high altitude challenges.
Around midnight on Day 4, you begin your final ascent over steep scree to reach Gillman's Point and continue along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m / 19,341 ft) to stand at the highest point in Africa. Tanzania Safari Radar manages all logistics from national park entry permits and expert local guides to hot, nourishing meals ensuring a safe and memorable summit experience.
Start your journey with a personal greeting at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) or Arusha Airport. We drive you straight to your Moshi hotel, where you'll meet your head guide to inspect your gear and finalize trip details.
Your Kilimanjaro expedition begins with the Tanzania Safari Radar team welcoming you at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) or Arusha Airport. Our driver transfers you directly to your hotel in Moshi, where our lead mountain guide conducts a full pre-trek briefing, checks your gear, and ensures you are fully prepared for the climb ahead.
After a hot breakfast prepared by our mountain chef, Tanzania Safari Radar guides usher you beyond the timberline into expansive alpine moorlands dotted with giant lobelias. During this 5 to 6-hour trek up to Horombo Hut (3,700 m), our crew ensures a steady, comfortable pace as you take in striking views of Mawenzi and Kibo Peaks.
This day begins with the Tanzania Safari Radar team guiding your trek across the vast, barren alpine desert saddle connecting Mawenzi and Kibo Peaks up to Kibo Hut (4,700 m). Upon arrival in the early afternoon, our mountain chef serves an early, nutrient-dense dinner so you can rest until 11:00 PM, when our guides wake you for warm tea and gear checks.
Our expert guides lead your push into the midnight cold, navigating steep scree paths up to Gillman's Point before reaching Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) right as the sun breaks over Africa. After capturing victory photos on the summit, our crew safely assists your descent back to Kibo Hut for a quick rest and continues down with you to Horombo Hut (3,700 m) for the night.
Your final trek descends through lush rainforest down to Marangu Gate, where our guides help you collect your official Kilimanjaro summit certificates. After a joyful celebration with your mountain crew, the Tanzania Safari Radar team transfers you back to your hotel in Moshi for a well-earned shower and rest.
